Worship Leading Fact

  • The worship is not for you, it's not for the congregation, it's for God.

I've heard it over and over again being discussed in worship leading forum's. And even argued about in churches. What style of worship music to play in a church service. Now here's where things get a little segregated and depending on if the church in quistion has a lot of really old people they are going to want the hymns of old and all the whinney music that was basically newer music when they young. Or if your church has a lot of 20-30 something's than they are going to want a lot more Contemporary Christian music to be played.

But here's a new revolutionary idea "who say's there has to be music at all?" Did God say "worship Me with music," in the ten commandment's. I think we have got music enterwoven with worship a little too much. I like what a professor at CFNI said once, "Music is the instrument that we use, its a vehicle to put the attention on to God." That is what it means to give something worth, it's when all of your attention is on that object or in this case God.

If this is true about what it means to give something worth, your undeniable attention than it would be true to say that we can worship God just by setting in a pew and thinking about him and his word and his promises am I right? Now I'm a minister of music and I know how much music can be used to convey our wanting to put all of our focus on to God. But do we really put our focus onto God in the worship, or are we upset because that electric guitar is up to load, and we are not able to understand what the person is singing in the service. Or maybe its the is music to slow and down all the time. But what if there was no music than what kind of worship would be doing today? I praise God everyday that I'm a live that there is music to be used to put our focus on to Him.

  • And that is why it is very important if you are a young worship leader to confrom to your churches worship style.

I was once very amazed at a young worship leader's point, the church was very contemporary, but this worship leader had a point that I never really thought about. And then when I heard him say this I also started using it in my worship services. But he said "that he liked to throw a hymn into every worship service to keep the old people happy, and to keep them coming back." Now I'm sure if you are old you wouldn't like to be called an old person. But let's just think about this, this worship leader was so impartial to the worship style that he chose to throw a hymn into a contemporary worship service. Wow I was amazed at this young worship leader's servant heart. I was totally blown away by his nack to alway's throw in that hymn at just the right moment, to make the church be focused on God.

I very shortly after hearing this changed my opinion on hymns and music all together.
